1% For Maine® Quarter 1 + 2 Grant Recipients


It is with great excitement that we connect to give you an update on our first half of the year grants money allocation! For Q1 + Q2 we committed to devoting our money to organizations fighting to reduce systemic Maine problems of education, generational poverty + affordable housing, substance abuse, limited access to medical care, and food insecurity. With $50,000 raised in Q1 + Q2, our 1% for Maine® committee was able to support 5 organizations across Maine with grants.

The first grant we chose to support was one submitted by the APEX Youth ConnectionHere are the quick details: 

Organization Mission:  Our vision is that every Maine youth has the personal skills and connections to support his/her transition to healthy, happy, productive adulthood. Our vision is that every youth aspires toward and reaches his/her meaningful potential

Grant Mission: Active and intentional programs that connect and strengthen the next generation through

opportunities to practice owning, directing, and finding fulfillment in their own lives

Grant Money Allocated: $10,000

The second grant we chose to support was one submitted by the Midcoast Community Alliance Here are the quick details: 

Organization Mission: Midcoast Community Alliance (Midcoast Youth Center) provides a diverse array of programs and services designed to improve the lives of youth and prevent youth suicide in Sagadahoc County, Brunswick, and Harpswell. The emphasis is on meeting the basic needs of youth, offering free food, clothing, and toiletries. They work closely with health experts to connect teens to vaping cessation, mental health services, and substance use treatment.

Grant Mission: To continue meeting the social-emotional, academic, healthcare, mental health, and basic needs of youth in Sagadahoc County, Brunswick, and Harpswell.

Grant Money Allocated: $10,000

The Third grant we chose to support was one submitted by the Thrive New England Here are the quick details: 

Organization Mission:  To prevent child exploitation and serve those who have experienced or been affected by commercial sexual violence with personalized, trauma-informed training and care.

Grant Mission: Create a safe place for at-risk teens to receive training and support for pursuing healthy relationships, building character, developing leadership skills, and achieving life goals.

The fourth grant we chose to support was one submitted by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine Here are the quick details: 

Organization Mission:  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine provides mentorship services to young people in Cumberland and York counties - creating one-to-one matches between mentors (Bigs) and youth (Littles) using an evidence-based model that results in positive outcomes for young people in the program.

Grant Mission: To make sure that every child matched with a mentor is in a safe and nurturing environment and that each relationship is moving towards meeting goals established at the beginning of the match.

Grant Money Allocated: $10,000

The fifth grant we chose to support was one submitted by the Cultivating Community Here are the quick details: 

Organization Mission:  Cultivating Community grows sustainable communities by expanding access to healthy, local food; empowering children, youth, and adults to play diverse roles in restoring the local, sustainable food systems; and modeling, teaching, and advocating for ecological food production.

Grant Mission: To support the next 18 months of organizational goals of developing our staff, creating a more diverse board of directors that reflects the areas we serve, searching for a new executive director, and technology updates.

Grant Money Allocated: $10,000
