The Kita Center, previously known as Camp Kita, was founded in 2013 to serve youth statewide with the mission to prevent suicide by building intentional environments to foster connections and lifelong engagement with mental wellness. The Kita Center hosts free summer camps for children agent 8 to 17 who have been impacted by suicide.

Currently, The Kita Center is constructing a permanent location at Loon Pond in Acton, Maine and offers camps, training, and retreat opportunities for the community. Traditional camp experiences are incorporated with peer and trauma support to offer a safe space to share about experiences with suicide, grief, and the healing journey.

“Receiving this generous grant from the 1% Back to Maine with Portside Real Estate Group is a profound honor for The Kita Center. We are deeply grateful to be supported by an organization whose mission is to empower Maine's next generation and create a more wonderful world—exactly what we aim to do for the children we serve who are affected by suicide loss and suicide risk,” Co-Founder Sydney Mosher shares, “This support from Portside Real Estate Group comes at a critical time as we embark on a journey to expand our programs, reach more individuals, and strive to provide hope and healing for years to come.”
