1% Back: 2025 York County Grant Recipients

Giving Back Across Maine: 1% Back Grant Highlights

Portside’s 1% Back to Maine initiative is proud to highlight the many incredible organizations receiving funding this year. These grants support projects that fight food insecurity, create safe spaces for youth, and build stronger communities across Maine.

York County

York County Community Action (YCCAC) works with its partners to meet urgent needs, create opportunities to succeed, promote well-being, and advocate for just policies and practices. With $10,000 from 1% BACK, YCCAC will provide low to moderate-income homeowners with critical home repairs and weatherization assistance. These updates help lower living costs and help families maintain safe, stable housing, ensuring all people in York County thrive. Discover how families are accessing affordable housing and how your support can make a difference by visiting https://yccac.org/

APEX is a hands-on youth program that uses bicycles as a tool to teach responsibility, skill-building, and community connection. With an $8,000 grant from 1% Back, APEX will be able to purchase new shop tools, bicycle repair parts, and provide afterschool snacks that keep students fueled and engaged. The funding also supports their Lead Mechanic, who not only manages the bike shop but also mentors students through both drop-in and structured programming. By teaching repair skills and fostering a welcoming environment, APEX is giving young people the chance to learn practical skills, gain confidence, and connect with their peers in a safe, supportive space. Explore more about how APEX is teaching skills through bikes and mentorship at https://www.apexyouthconnection.org/

Portside is honored to support these organizations and the vital work they do to strengthen Maine communities. Collectively, 1% Back has donated $1.2 million since its inception. When you support 1% Back, you’re helping neighbors across the state access food, housing, education, and more. Together, we are building a stronger Maine for all.
