Kim Swan grew up in the real estate business.  Her parents started the Swan Agency Insurance and Real Estate in 1975.  When Kim left for her freshman year at the University of Southern Maine, her father suggested that, in addition to her political science course load that she take real estate classes at night too.  That way, he said, she would not have to waitress through college summers.  Kim got her first license in the mail on her 19th birthday.

After working in the family business, Kim bought the real estate division in the mid-1990s.  At the same time, she launched Maine’s first specialty niche business selling Bed & Breakfast Inns throughout the State.  She also started her lifetime pursuit of being a real estate investor, buying her first duplex at 23 years old, and was elected to the Bar Harbor Town Council at 27 years old.

As the company reached its 50th year in business in April of 2025, Kim decided to celebrate the impressive milestone and then rechart the future of the business.  In July of 2025, Kim had found the ideal path forward by merging Swan Agency with Dava Davin’s Portside Real Estate Group.  Long a fan of Dava’s company, management style, and philanthropic arm, she knew she had found the perfect hands to entrust the future of the company and the valued associates.

Kim maintains her brokerage role with the company as a member of the Swan Agency Private Brokerage Team of Portside Real Estate Group in its Northeast Harbor office and has ramped up her real estate investment action with the sale of her flagship Bayview Hotel in Bar Harbor in the summer of 2025. New acquisitions for Swan Hospitality Group include Swan Song Saltwater Farm in Sullivan, Maine, and Fox Pond Estate outside Franklin, Maine, with several more on the acquisition list.  Her downtown Bar Harbor building at 43 Cottage Street has been renamed the Cary Swan Block in memory of her father and is also the home of the new Portside Real Estate Group’s Bar Harbor Office.

Most important to Kim is her role as Mom to Cygie, Tilly, and Milla.
