Portside Picks : Lakes Region

Portside Picks Lakes Region
Summer is here! It’s time to get out on the water and explore the lakes region of Maine! Take it from Portsider Carly Chasse the lakes region is where the fun is:

“The lakes region is my favorite part of Maine, because of all the lakes and good food! Being on the water is calming and freeing. Sebago Lake is a personal favorite of mine because of its size, and all the different places to explore! From Windham to Naples there are many delicious restaurants (some right on the water!) that it's hard to choose a favorite!”

Carly shared a few of her favorite local spots and why she enjoys them.

Favorite Trail: Sea to Sebago  -

Hiking Sea to Sebago
“This trail is one of my favorites because of the diversity it provides! Much of it is accessible for off-road bikes, some of it is accessible for commuters on bicycle and people of all abilities. The Sebago to the Sea Trail is approximately 28 miles beginning at Sebago Lake and ending at Casco Bay, following the path of the Presumpscot River much of the way.  My favorite section is in Standish and leads to Sebago Lake!”

Favorite Place to watch the sunset: Hackers Hill  -

Sunset at Hackers Hill
Hacker’s Hill Preserve, located on Quaker Ridge Road in Casco, is 27-acres of fields and woods that provides 360-degree views of the White Mountains, Pleasant Mountain, and the Lakes Region.  It is by far the best place to bring dinner and catch the sunset!  I also love to come up here with a book to  just relax and take in the views!”

Favorite Beach: Sebago Lake State Park/Sebago Lake -

Sebago Lake State Park
The State Park on Sebago is my favorite because of all the variety it has! From camping to a beach day to going to the sandbar by boat there is fun to be had at all parts of the Sebago Lake State Park.”

Favorite Restaurant:  Captain Jack's  -
Captain Jack's is a family owned restaurant and bar located at the Naples Marina on Brandy Pond with beautiful views of the marina, the Naples causeway and Long Lake. It is my favorite because it can be accessed by boat and the food is delicious, the view is a bonus!”
