It is with great excitement that we connect to give you an update on our first half of the year (2023) grant money allocation! For Q1 + Q2 we committed to devoting our money to organizations fighting to reduce systemic Maine challenges related to education, generational poverty + affordable housing, substance abuse, mental health, and food insecurity. With $65,000+ funded in Q1 + Q2 by commissions given back by our 1% Back to Maine agents and Portside, we were able to support seven organizations across Maine with grants.
GRANT #1: Greater Portland Family Promise. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: Greater Portland Family Promise’s mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response
Grant Mission: This grant will be used to help prevent family homelessness through GPFP’s financial assistance programs and housing stabilization programs that work with local landlords.

GRANT #2: Ripple Effect. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: Rippleffect envisions a Maine community where youth and adults are engaged in their community, healthy in mind, body, and spirit, and sensitive to diversity in their social and natural environment.
Grant Mission: To aid Rippleeffect’s school-based community partnerships and year-round open enrollment programs (day/overnight camps, expeditions, and after-school) are central services offered to the community and through them serve over 3,500 Maine youth annually.

GRANT #3: Our Place. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: To support the healthy development of youth and families in Portland through free personalized services aimed at strengthening community connections sense of identity and quality of life.
Grant Mission: This grant will support Our Place’s youth groups that currently meet weekly. These groups consist of youth in and around the Kennedy Park area that are vulnerable and focus on mental and physical health through a restorative lens.

GRANT #4: Tedford Housing. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: To offer emergency housing for adults and families, supportive permanent housing for previously homeless households and to provide homeless prevention outreach and service.
Grant Mission: Tedford Housing has found itself serving more people in the community on an outreach basis than in its facilities. This grant will allow them to continue their work outside of their emergency shelter and reach more individuals and families who need their homeless prevention services, and warm thy neighbor program.

GRANT #5: Mid Coast Hunger. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: The mission of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program is to offer dignity and empowerment by providing all members of our community with access to healthy food.
Grant Mission: MCHPP operates programs throughout mid-coast Maine ensuring there are easy ways for everyone in the community to access food. In 2022 they served over 1.4 Million meals and partnered with 25 local schools.

GRANT #6: Ecology School. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: The Ecology School has made the study of ecology accessible and enjoyable for tens of thousands of people since 1998. What began as a small overnight program for students on the coast of Maine has expanded to reach groups, families, and individuals of all ages. The opening of the school’s groundbreaking southern Maine.
Grant Mission: To support our award-winning EcosySTEMTM program. According to the Child Mind Institute, the average American child spends 4-7 minutes per day outside enjoying nature, and 7 hours per day in front of a screen. At The Ecology School, those numbers are flipped. EcosySTEMTM helps underserved students from Maine to engage in nature while enjoying nutritious meals.

GRANT #7: Youth Full. Here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: Youth Full Maine supports Mainers of all ages in Southern Maine who are struggling with food insecurity by providing free community food distributions across 10 different Maine towns.
Grant Mission: YFM manages school food pantries and is currently in three school districts and two pre-schools, with a total of 20 schools in 10 different towns. YFM’s community-wide free food distributions are open to all people, the majority of the population they support is senior citizens.

We are happy to be involved with Gather's Fill the Hall Event!
This foundation strives to fill EVERY seat within the hall with food to give to those in need. This event helps Gather's Meals-4-Kids program that feeds 700 kids 10 meals a week for 11-weeks in the summer! Portside is proud to be supporters of this wonderful foundation.
