Portside’s 1% Back to Maine is proud to share it has granted Girls on the Run (GotR) a $10,000 grant to reduce financial barriers and provide access to programs that foster positive growth for girls in Maine through physical activity and life skill development.
Girls on the Run was founded in 1996 and has a global reach that has impacted over 2 million girls across North America. GotR encourages girls to learn about conflict resolution, make healthy decisions, establish and increase their self-confidence, and encourage physical activity. In Maine, over 7,500 girls have been served in 171 locations!
“With the support of Portside Foundation's 1% Back to Maine, Girls on the Run Maine can fulfill every request for financial assistance from families in Greater Portland,” Girls on the Run Executive Director Emily Clark shares. “We are thrilled to be able to take the financial burden of participation away so that families and their girls can focus on the benefits and intended outcomes of the program - gaining the confidence to do hard things, building long-lasting female friendships, finding a voice to stand up for oneself and others and the experience of setting and accomplishing goals. With Portside Foundation as our partner, we can help more Maine girls recognize their limitless potential and dream big.”
