Fall Foliage 2025

The Autumn Equinox is nearly here, and with its arrival, New England will be bursting with fall color!.  Check out our regional guide to the best places to take in the fall foliage across New England. From coastal trails to mountain peaks, grab your sweater, plan your route, and get ready to explore everything fall has to offer and chase the colors!

Seacoast

  • Prescott Park, Portsmouth, NH -  take a stroll through late-season blooms, changing foliage, and sweet river views, all right in the heart of Portsmouth! Make it a day trip and explore the historic downtown village for a true fall day in New England.

  • Dixville Notch State Park, Colebrook, NH - Located towards the tippy top of the state of New Hampshire along route 26, this park is known for its scenic beauty! Featuring a deep gorge, waterfall, and hiking trails that lead to numerous mountain summits, it's a fall outdoor enthusiast's dream!

  • Monadnock State Park, Jaffrey, NH - Don’t drive too far to catch the fiery leaves on the mountains! This park is full of trails to enjoy the changing seasons. Encompassing approximately 1,017 acres, the park is centered around Mount Monadnock, which rises to 3,165 feet, making it the most prominent peak in southern New Hampshire.

York County

  • Little Ossipee Pond, Waterboro, ME - Not only known for its picturesque style, but this pond is a haven for birdwatchers, hosting species like loons, herons, bald eagles, ducks, and geese!

  • Mount Agamenticus, York, ME - Despite its modest elevation, it offers expansive views and a rich history. The summit provides a 360-degree panorama, including sights of the Atlantic Ocean, Mount Washington, and the White Mountains

Greater Portland:

  • Mackworth Island, Falmouth, ME - The park's main attraction is its 1.25-mile loop trail that encircles the island. This easy, mostly flat trail is suitable for families, strollers, and leashed dogs. The path meanders through shaded forests of spruce and pine, offering stunning views of Casco Bay and its surrounding islands.

  • Wolfe’s Neck Woods, Freeport, ME - Wolfe's Neck Woods is renowned for its birdlife, especially ospreys that nest on nearby Googins Island. The park offers seasonal nature programs, including guided walks and talks, to enhance visitors' understanding of the local ecosystem.

Midcoast:

  • Bradbury Mountain State Park - A short hike to panoramic leaf-covered views

  • Cliff Trail - Harpswell - A stunning loop through the woods, with a peak overlooking the bay and islands beyond

Belgrade:

  • French Mountain - Panoramic views of the seven lakes, and colorful forests below

  • Blueberry Hill Lookout - Enjoy the red blueberry barrens against the blue of the lakes.

Mount Desert Island:

  • Cadillac Mountain - Catch sunrise or sunset over a fiery forest panorama

  • Bald Peak Trail - Coastal panoramic view of granite ledges and stunning forests
