Portside’s 1% Back initiative is delighted to highlight the incredible organizations receiving funding this year. These grants support projects that fight food insecurity, create safe spaces for youth, and build stronger communities across Maine and New Hampshire. Check out these amazing organizations from Midcoast and Central Maine!

Knox County

Midcoast Recreation Center brings families and community members together through sports, recreation, and wellness programs for all ages. With funding, Midcoast Rec will create a Youth Community Connection Center designed to encourage healthy socialization and inclusive play for young people and families. Building on a strong community of active families, the center will provide a welcoming space where youth can connect, stay active, and build lasting friendships through play and shared experiences. St. George Community Development Corporation works to strengthen the five villages of St. George by supporting local efforts in areas such as housing, healthcare, education, economic development, and food security. With funding, the organization will improve the infrastructure of its food pantry to safely provide nutritious food to community members in need. By empowering neighbors to connect, collaborate, and support one another, the St. George Community Development Corporation is helping build a stronger and more resilient community for all. Kennebec County

Boys & Girls Club of Kennebec Valley provides a safe and supportive place where young people can learn, grow, and build brighter futures. With funding, the organization will help sustain its Teen Center, offering a safe space where teens can connect with mentors, participate in enriching programs, and develop confidence and leadership skills. By providing meals, youth programming, athletics, and community outreach, the Boys & Girls Club continues to support hundreds of young people and families across the Kennebec Valley. 7 Lakes Alliance works to conserve the lands and waters of the Belgrade Lakes region by engaging the community in efforts that protect clean water, steward natural landscapes, and support a vibrant local economy. With funding, the organization will continue advancing conservation initiatives that safeguard the Belgrade Lakes watershed for future generations. Through collaboration with local partners, towns, and residents, 7 Lakes Alliance helps preserve the natural resources that define and sustain the region.
