Overview

Just moments from South Portland and Old Orchard, the city of Scarborough is one of Maine’s most beautiful ocean communities. Inland there are green pastures and rolling hills that paint a classic New England scene among many early Colonial homes. The Scarborough Marsh encompasses 3,000 acres of the thriving wetlands. As the largest marsh in the state, it is not only just a great place to explore; it is also vital to Maine’s ecology. The tidal estuaries create a labyrinth of waterways which people are free to explore by either bringing a kayak or canoe of their own or renting from the Maine Audubon Society. Thousands of birds and waterfowl flock the area every day. Scarborough is also home to miles of beautiful public beaches: Scarborough Beach State Park, Higgins Beach, and Ferry Beach.

 

 

Schools

Scarborough’s public school system provides education for K-12 with four elementary schools, Scarborough Middle School and Scarborough High School. Scarborough Public Schools practices its philosophy of offering quality education for all eligible members of the community. Students learn in a positive atmosphere where dedicated educators strive to meet individual student needs throughout the school year and beyond.
