Overview
South Portland is located just south of downtown Portland along the water’s edge. Connected to Portland by the Casco Bay Bridge. Known for its working waterfront, South Portland is situated on Portland Harbor and overlooks the skyline of Portland and the islands of Casco Bay. The suburban community offers many quiet neighborhoods, great for families or anyone who wants to live close to, but outside of the excitement of Portland. The city’s strong commercial center and serene neighborhoods make it a convenient and peaceful place to live.
Community
South Portland offers many recreational opportunities. Willard Beach is South Portland’s premiere beach along Casco Bay. The Greenbelt Walkway is an off-road pathway enjoyed by walkers, runners, cyclists, and easy strollers. The trail spans 5.6 miles from Wainwright Athletic complex near the Scarborough town line to historic Bud Light Park, where Liberty Ships were built during WWII. South Portland is also home to some of the area’s best restaurants.

Schools
South Portland’s public school system has five neighborhood elementary schools: Brown School, Dyer School, Kaler School, Skillin School, and Dora L. Small Elementary School. The city has two middle schools, Mahoney Middle School and Memorial Middle School, and one high school, South Portland High School, which has an enrollment of about 900 students. In addition, South Portland has two private schools: Holy Cross School, which is a Roman Catholic K-8 school, and Greater Portland Christian School, which is a non-denominational Christian K-12 school.
