Located in the Pepperell Mill Campus, your condo will be in one of
four buildings within three associations. Each building is a creative
hub located in the historic textile mills that have been extensively
rehabilitated and renovated. Click below to learn more.
Building 15 is referred to as the Carding House, as a nod to its
function in the mid 1800s where cotton was turned into cloth to
be shipped around the world. Building 15 housed the carding
machines. The machines had opposing layers of wire teeth to
clean and comb out the cotton fibers, and was the beginning step
in the drawing out of cotton to produce yarn.
Building 18 is referred to as the Stage House, as a nod to its
function in the mid 1800s where cotton was turned into cloth to
be shipped around the world. The Stage House was the location in
the mills where materials were staged for the next step in the
process, and to be shipped to places like China and India.
Building 17 & Building 35 are referred to as the Spinning
House, as a nod to their function in the mid 1800s where cotton
was turned into cloth to be shipped around the world. After the
process began in the Carding House, spinning was the next step.
Each time the rope was spun, the thread would become longer and
more tightly wound, and one step closer to the final product.
