The Spring House of Head Tide Village on the Sheepscot River is a local landmark well deserving of its stature. The village is a collection of 18th and 19th century homes on the National Register of Historic Places. The Spring House has appeared in myriad home and garden magazines, books, and been featured twice on Mary Emmerling's Country at Home HGTV series. Deriving its name from the spring which is actually in the kitchen, the home is at once of colonial style built in the early Federal era with a broke-back saltbox roof. All three exterior doors are original to the house - a rarity. There are twin chimneys comprising 6 fireplaces including the kitchen hearth and beehive oven. Wide pine floors, decorative paneling and trim, beaded plank walls are found throughout. The extensive stonework, steps, walled garden, and woodland paths through the expertly planted gardens and along the river add many delightfully hidden outdoor spaces. The barn is a sturdy reminder of Head Tide's past.
