What I learned as a girl growing up in Boothbay Harbor was a community working together with common goals can produce results that no one person could achieve. Working with people to help them realize their housing goals fits that description perfectly. It is always foremost in my mind to act with honesty and integrity to assist my clients reach their goals. Many of my Clients are Veterans and over the years I have come to understand the special challenges Veterans face as a result of their service. Findings homes for Veterans and knowing their homes will be their sanctuary gives me a huge sense of accomplishment.

It seems as if I have always been interested in houses. I find myself looking at chimneys on my walk or admiring a doorway. Historic homes are a special interest. I live in an Italianate Victorian home which my husband, Pat and I love and continue to restore. I am a past President of Sagadahoc Preservation, our local preservation and education non-profit. The Winter St Center restoration project was done under my leadership making the Center an important community space. I have always had a deep connection with animals.

Thirty-six years ago, I founded A Paw in the Door to help cats needing the most help. Over the years we have helped thousands of cats, rehabilitating them so they recover and are adopted into loving homes. Paw in the Door is all volunteer with 3 shifts a day plus special visitors for those cats most in need. This group of people are incredibly dedicated and make miracles happen. Throughout my career, all my jobs have involved helping people meet their goals. Some of those jobs include teaching school, writing grants for non-profits, and serving as executive director for several large programs providing housing and other essential services to low-income people. I also helped create a group home for troubled teens and served as a board member for Maine Arts, the YMCA, Sagadahoc Preservation, and many others.

Pat Colwell is a licensed REALTOR and partner of Patty Sample Colwell - making up the Sample-Colwell Team at Portside - serving clients throughout the Bath, Brunswick, Midcoast and Central regions of Maine.  Pat has spent his career serving and helping others!  He has more than 20 years of experience in business development and had a distinguished career in the Maine Legislature serving as a State Representative, House Majority Leader, and Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. \

FUN FACT! Pat Colwell is also an accomplished musician and performer.  Pat is lead guitarist and lead singer for the Maine based Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations band. He has shared the stage with a “who’s-who” of musicians including Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bonnie Raitt, NRBQ, and the J. Geils Band.
