We are thrilled to provide you with an update on our 1% Back to Maine efforts. For Q2, our initiative was Education; we committed to devoting our money to organizations focused on providing extra support and opportunities, both in and out of the classroom to Maine’s children to ensure that they have the tools and skills they need to succeed. The strength of the spring real estate market helped to increase our donation amount and we ended up having $52,000 to divide among many wonderful grants. After much consideration, we chose to support seven different nonprofits in three Maine counties.
The first grant we chose to support was one submitted by The Telling Room here are the quick details:
Organization Mission: The Telling Room’s mission is to empower youth through writing and share their voices with the world.

Grant Mission: Programs and activities address three primary issues: 1) schools’ need for educational, arts, and enrichment support services; 2) Low English literacy levels among communities of immigrants and refugees; 3) all young people’s need to be encouraged in the art of writing and self-expression to increase their chances of success. Two core programs: 1) In-School Residencies: Teaching Artists work in classrooms (or virtually!) for several weeks; students generate, edit, and publish an original chapbook; 2) Young Writers & Leaders: after school writing and leadership program for youth with international and multicultural backgrounds. Our core programs are free to students and their families.
Grant Money Allocated: $7,500

Throughout the next few months, we will be sharing information on the grants we funded for seven local organizations and the impact these funds will have on Maine’s youth. We hope you follow along!
