The Tides of Summer

What is better than a day at the beach? Whether you find yourself in Kennebunk, Portsmouth, Scarborough, or Brunswick, we have some of our favorite beach recommendations up and down the coast. Plus, we made tide charts for each region to keep you up to date all summer long! Read more to make the most of your summer:

Midcoast:

Our top picks for the Midcoast are:

REID STATE PARK, GEORGETOWN

Long sandy beaches perfect for a relaxing beach day. If you’re a surfer this beach is also know for it’s waves.

POPHAM BEACH, PHIPPSBURG

Offers beachgoers different experiences depending on the tide – high tide leaves a thin crescent of sandy beach to enjoy, while at low tide you can enjoy the vast beach and even walk out to Fox Island. Just pay attention to the tide, so you’re not stranded on the island.

PEMAQUID BEACH, BRISTOL

The sand is groomed daily to ensure beach goers enjoy the cleanest beach setting possible. Enjoy the new Pavilion, with changing rooms and outdoor showers.

Greater Portland:

Our top picks for Greater Portland are:

WILLARD BEACH, SOUTH PORTLAND

A charming neighborhood beach, it offers an incomparable view of Spring Point Ledge Light, cruise ships coming in and out of the harbor, and sailboats bobbing up and down not far from the shore.

HIGGINS BEACH, SCARBOROUGH

The surf is mostly calm and the beach itself is soft and inviting, but when the surf is up, surfers are often seen catching waves regardless of the season, putting on a show for the beach-goers.

EAST END BEACH, PORTLAND

The ideal place to take in the panorama of Casco Bay. This stretch of sand and pebbles is easy to get to with parking nearby, picnic tables and benches situated on the grassy hillside, and a boat launch for launching any manner of vessel for a day on the water.

York County:

Our top picks for York County are:

FORTUNE’S ROCKS, BIDDEFORD POOL

Fortune’s Rocks Beach is a lovely beach for hanging out, watersports, jogging, walking and sunbathing. This 2 mile long scenic beach in Biddeford Pool is uncrowded even during peak summer.

GOOSE ROCKS, KENNEBUNKPORT

Protected, wide, white, soft sand, great for pulling up a beach towel and spending the day. Enjoy long sandy walks on this scenic and beautiful beach. Goose Rocks Beach has limited parking and limited access, Kennebunkport Parking sticker is required.

MOODY’S, WELLS

A lovely mile-long beach on the border between Ogunquit and Wells. Access this beach from Bourne Avenue in Wells to Ocean Avenue. Paid public parking is available at the very end of Ocean Avenue with restroom facilities.

Seacoast:

Our top picks for Seacoast are:

GREAT ISLAND COMMON, NEW CASTLE:

One of the best beach parks in the area, covering a total of 32 acres. With extraordinary coastal views, I recommend visiting in the morning to watch the sun come up.

HAMPTON BEACH,HAMPTON:

One of the most family-friendly beaches in the Seacoast area. This beach offers wide open space, with lifeguards on duty all summer long. Bring your beach games or just work on your tan!

LONG SANDS BEACH,YORK:

One of several great beaches just over the border in Maine. Beaches in the York area are cozy, and enjoyable, with soft sands and surprisingly warm waters!
