Giving Back Across Maine + New Hampshire: 1% Back Grant Highlights
Portside’s 1% Back initiative is delighted to highlight the incredible organizations receiving funding this year. These grants support projects that fight food insecurity, create safe spaces for youth, and build stronger communities across Maine and New Hampshire.
Maine Statewide
Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine works to support individuals and families facing hunger by increasing access to nutritious food across the state. With funding, the organization will help increase nutrition and well-being for children and families in Greater Portland by providing access to healthy foods through low-barrier youth programs. By connecting communities with reliable sources of nutritious meals, Good Shepherd Food Bank helps ensure more Maine families have the food they need to stay healthy and thrive. Maine Boys to Men works to end male violence and self-harm while advancing gender equity by supporting the development of self-aware, empathetic boys and men. With funding, the organization will continue providing experiential workshops and programs that help youth and adults examine harmful norms around masculinity and build healthier relationships. By empowering boys and men to lead with empathy, accountability, and respect, Maine Boys to Men is helping create safer, stronger communities across the state. Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP) works to ensure that everyone in the community has access to healthy, nutritious food. Based in downtown Brunswick, MCHPP operates a soup kitchen and food pantry while also offering curbside meals, online ordering for pantry items, and mobile, school, and satellite pantries across multiple Maine counties. By meeting neighbors where they are and removing barriers like transportation and access, MCHPP helps ensure more families can receive the food they need.
