Portside’s 1% Back initiative is delighted to highlight the incredible organizations receiving funding this year. These grants support projects that fight food insecurity, create safe spaces for youth, and build stronger communities across Maine and New Hampshire.

Hancock Grammar School provides a student-centered learning environment for kindergarten through eighth-grade students in Hancock and surrounding communities. With a focus on academic achievement, personal growth, and strong community values, the school offers a well-rounded education that includes academics, athletics, art, and music. By fostering confidence, curiosity, and respect for others, Hancock Grammar School helps students develop the skills and character needed to succeed in school and in life. H.O.M.E., Inc. works to enhance the quality of life for low-income families and individuals in coastal and eastern Maine by providing access to basic needs like food, shelter, education, and employment opportunities. With funding, H.O.M.E. will support youth programs that offer education, job training, and life skills development for young people in the community. Through a wide range of services including housing support, food programs, and workforce development, H.O.M.E. helps families build stability, dignity, and long-term self-sufficiency.
